I could give you my opinion but that doesn't get you any closer to figuring out what you really want. One way to find out is to close your eyes right now…which one did you see? If it’s the Vintage Sunburst than get that one, if it’s the Ebony then get the Ebony finish. For what it's worth I like the Vintage Sunburst. Enjoy your new guitar! The Gibson Les Paul Studio uses 490R and 498T Alnico 2 magnet humbucker pickups. So the pickups <em>are</em> slightly different, unless you get the faded finish model. Additionally I prefer the feel of the Les Paul Standard Plus. The flatter neck has always suited my playing style. Add in some serious sustain and I think it's worth the money. Almost forgot the locking Grover Keystone Tuners. Something else the Studio does not have. However if your looking for a great guitar at around $800 you will not be dissatisfied with a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Good luck!
