Gibson Les Paul

The Gibson Les Paul is a solid body guitar that purists love. Developed in 1950 this electric guitar has a signature resonant sound that both players and listeners recognize and enjoy.
In the 1950's guitars were becoming more than just a fad. Competition from Fender with their introduction of the Stratocaster and Telecaster fueled the innovation of the Gibson Les Paul. Jazz guitarist and innovator Les Paul had sought to produce his own solid body guitar "The Log". When his design didn't get any traction in the industry he agreed to work with Gibson as a consultant on a new project. To what extent Les Paul contributed, to the guitar that bears his name, will forever be disputed. The result of his union with Gibson did produce a guitar that would set a high standard for quality that other guitars would be measured against.
The original road map for the Les Paul was to feature two lines: Regular or "Goldtop" and Custom. The Custom featured the same single cut away design with upgraded hardware. Due to other innovations in pick-ups and hardware, as well as inspirations about design, the Les Paul would later become a full series of guitars that continues to be manufactured today. Other styles include the Junior, Special, Standard, SG, Deluxe, Studio and more.
