Ibanez

The brand Ibanez is owned by Hoshino Gakki of Japan. The Ibanez brand has seen many ups and downs since its inception in 1929. Today it stands as one of the top brands across many music styles. From metal and thrash solid body guitarists who want to 'push' the limits of both sound and technique, all the way to jazz artists looking for clear tone, hollow and semi-hollow body guitars .

In its earliest years the Ibanez brand was hurt by multiple production sites that had people wondering about quality. Chinese and Korean made Ibanez guitars were not as well made as there Japanese counter parts. A 1970's lawsuit from Gibson also hurt the brand. Gibson claimed Ibanez copied their headstock. The suit was settled out of court and signaled a turn around for Gakki.

The Ibanez brand emerged from this period with a whole new mindset. They embraced sleeker, slimmer designs with flatter fingerboards and began using better electronics and higher quality humbucker pickups.

Ibanez quickly enrolled high profile artists who could showcase their guitars. Most notably was George Benson. His early influence with the Ibanez GB series has produced some of the most sought after guitars ever. As speed and electronics grew in both popularity and demand, Ibanez brought in some heavyweights to demonstrate what could be achieved on flatter fingerboards. Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, with their amazingly quick riffs and artistic songwriting, grew in stardom putting these high-end, super sustaining Ibanez guitars to use.
